Provisional membership is designed to assist individuals planning to open a retail bookstore, or to sell books by mail order or the Internet. Provisional members are granted most Active member privileges except voting and enrolment in CBA's cost-saving programs. Participation in these programs is conditional on achieving Active member status.

Provisional membership fee: ($125 + $8.75 GST).......$133.75

Membership runs from January 1st to December 31st. $12 of the membership fee is allocated to CanadianBookseller magazine.



Representation

Your voice in government, Canadian Booksellers Association represents booksellers' interests strongly and effectively to government policy makers.

Supplier Relations

CBA works closely with booksellers and suppliers to promote profitability of the industry and efficient operational practices.

  • CBA Membership Directory: Published annually, this directory (website electronic version) provides a link to your suppliers and colleagues.
  • CBA Source Book: Canadian Booksellers Association publishes an annual directory (electronic) of publishers' and distributors' terms and discounts. It includes contact information as well as discount, return and co-op advertising policies. All Active members receive their initial copy (webiste electronic version) as a benefit of membership.

Information

  • CanadianBookseller: Included, as a benefit of membership, is a subscription to your own trade magazine full of news, retailing information and analysis of your industry. Published ten times a year CanadianBookseller is the Association's official magazine and members' principal networking tool.
  • CBA Website: www.cbabook.org offers up-to-the-minute information and the Coast to Coast Bestsellers List as well as e-mail access to the staff of CBA.
  • Updates: Time-sensitive developments on advocacy activities and industry, government, retail and marketing issues are faxed frequently to members.

Education and Professional Development

  • Professional Book Retailing: A retail training and management series of videos developed especially for booksellers.
  • Bookselling School: A two-day workshop held during CBA Annual Convention.

BookExpo Canada - National Convention and Tradeshow

  • National Convention: Held each June, offers members the opportunity to attend seminars, workshops, author breakfasts and lunches, CBA Bookselling School and social functions.
  • Tradeshow: Brings together booksellers, publishers, distributors,authors, as well as suppliers of services and sidelines. Booksellers use the tradeshow to find new sources of supply, place orders and see what's new.
